admin URL

Hi, first post.

 

My webhoster provides one-click installation of the oscommerce package. It installed perfectly and they have links from their cpanel software to the admin pages. I have a question and comment regarding the oscommerce software. I'm familiar with running various php-based forums.

 

 

Is it possible to change the URL of the admin page.

With the setup of the one-click installation provides it seems to me that anyone can enter

http://www.mydomain.com/admin/index.php and have full access to the admin pages of this store.

 

Can I change the admin directory to another name and will everything still work alright? Or is there another way to add security to the administrators pages.

 

 

Also I'm a little surprised that all the directories have no index.html (as a 403 forbidden) file in them. Anyone can directly enter http://www.mydomain.com/admin/includes and get a full file listing on the server if (as many might) have Directory Indexing turned on.

You can change it to whatever you want. You just need to be sure to edit the admin/includes/configure.php file to match the change. To prevent someone from gaining access, you need to password protect it. That is usually done using the option in most hosts control panel.
