whiteblazer01
Hi, I've been excited to get the website up and running, but I cannot upload any images. I've checked the permissions, I've done the chmod 777, 655, etc.. and nothing works. I can ftp to my site using WSFTP, but I can upload using the site manager. Please someone let me know what to check, or fix. I am also willing to just ftp the images directly to my site, but I don't know what to name them. Please advice. Thanks in advance! whiteblazer01
Thanks for the reply. Where should I look in the code. I'm pretty sure I didn't edit any features. Would it be easier if I cut & paste the code? Thanks!
bkkbint
Thanks for the reply. Where should I look in the code. I'm pretty sure I didn't edit any features. Would it be easier if I cut & paste the code? Thanks! I had the exact same problem. Struggled with it for almost 3 weeks but nobody on here could help me. ( tried every suggestion and nothing worked). Yesterday, I finally downloaded oscommerce again and re-did everything I'd spent 2 weeks doing. (Surprisingly enough, it only took me 3 HOURS this time :-) It's now up and running fine and my photos are uploading with no problems. Whiteblazer, my advice? Don't make the mistake I did - spending 3 weeks struggling with it when it didn't seem to be able to be fixed (at least, nobody on here could tell me what the problem was and my website host couldn't find it either). Give it a couple of days, and if it's still not working, give it up and re-load oscommerece. In the long run, IMO, you'll save yourself a LOT of time and grief. Would it be easier if I cut & paste the code? Thanks! please tell me what exactly you are doing? from admin you are trying to upload the images and it is not working? ftp is doable, you say, you do not know what to name the images? what images are you trying to send up, maybe that is the problem... for example, if you are uploading images of products you are selling, then you should be doing that from the admin section... if however you are tyring to upload images to take the place of images in the layout,, then you can right click on the image viewing it from your site,,, select properties, and you will see the directory where to put the images as well as the size, and the name.... please be more specific as to what you are trying to do, and I may be able to help... thanks... ;) Tony V
usernamenone
you may need to chang the read write permissions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_system_permissions Find the operating system you are on and then ftp to the image file then right click on the image file and choose permissions and set them accordingly. I use FileZilla a free download and once at folder on the hosted sit File Zilla knows what permission # to use just by choosing which combo of boxes that are clicked. As for someone in this forum not helping someone else out!!! A good reason for this is........... The person asking the questions has not made themselves clear enough for others to understand. We need to know more than help, I can't upload any images. You may need to give some detail as to what happens when you try to upload........... And not just I can't upload. please tell me what exactly you are doing?from admin you are trying to upload the images and it is not working? ftp is doable, you say, you do not know what to name the images? what images are you trying to send up, maybe that is the problem... for example, if you are uploading images of products you are selling, then you should be doing that from the admin section... if however you are tyring to upload images to take the place of images in the layout,, then you can right click on the image viewing it from your site,,, select properties, and you will see the directory where to put the images as well as the size, and the name.... please be more specific as to what you are trying to do, and I may be able to help... thanks... ;) Tony V

Hey: When I had the same problem I gave step by step details of what I was doing and I got lots of suggestions for 'changing permissions' which I'd already mentioned several times that I had already checked and they were fine but not much else. I finally gave up and reloaded oscommerce. Works like a charm now. :D Oh, and by the way, just like me he's already SAID he's checked the permissions and you're giving him the same advice again. No offense, but that's what got me really frustrated here, was people telling me over and over again (on here and in private mail) to check the permissions when I'd already said 10 times that I'd done that. I've had some GREAT help on here, but when I finally got to the last stage and couldn't get any help at all, that's when I got really frustrated, especially when people were telling me to do things I'd already told them I'd done. So then, the answer my friend, just may be to reload oscommerce then.... Not lol... but then again, maybe... like I said, it really depends on what images he or she is trying to upload... and like you, I get frustrated with the help in here sometimes... but if you stick to it... I have gotten some great help from time to time.

So what you are saying is the above statement is understandable and you know exactly what the poster is asking and you know exactly what to answer?
whiteblazer01
Thanks guys for all the help. Yes, I am using WSFTP as my FTP program. I tried the CHMOD using WSFTP, and the permissions next to the directories that I changed do show the changes were made, so there is no error on that part. I am trying to upload product images using the admin directory. I wouldn't mind doing this throught WSFTP, I can name each image, and transfer it to the image directory, but I don't know what to name the image so it shows up. bkkbint, thanks for the help, and I see you feel my frustration. I guess I'll save myself 3 weeks, and just re-install everything. Hopefully I won't have to reload the products in the database (or will I?). I just hope this problem doesn't re-occur when I'm well into the website selling products and it comes time to update the produts to the new models... usernamenone
You may also have to set permissions for admin. Here is how it goes. In admin catgories and products from the nav left side. Choose New categorie fill in all the info. brows for your image on your hard drive and click save. If you don't get an image upload you either do not have the correct permissions on your catalog/images or you do not have the correct permissions for you admin folder. You can also check the read and write permissions from admin. Choose file manager from the left nav and see what they are first. You may have to change you permissions a couple times or use different combos to come up with the number used by your hosts file system and how they want them set. admin, includes/images and includes is set at drwxrwxrwx. from there you can open each folder and see how the files are set and then make changes as need through you ftp client. I use FileZilla ( with filezilla I only had to change permissions to configure.php but permissions and how they are handled may be up to the host. ) and I ftp to my site right click on the folder and choose the check box's for that folder. When you get advice on 444, 777, and any of the others it is up to the operating system and server as to what numbers you will set. You can install and uninstall all you want to if it makes you feel good. I however don't like doing that unless there are errors from hacking into code or a contrib gone bad   Thanks guys for all the help. Yes, I am using WSFTP as my FTP program. whiteblazer01
Thanks for the help usernamenone, The following are the permissions for the directories/files: Catalog - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/images- - rwxrwxrwx Catalog/includes - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/includes/configure.php - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin/Images - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin/configuration.php - -rwxrwxrwx I tried creating a new category as you suggested, and it successfully created the category, but it would not upload the image. I very much do not want to start over, I have everything already configured the way I like it, but I need images for my products. Is there any way to just ftp the images to the images directory, and they will appear in the product page?
usernamenone
You realy should get the permissions for your catalog figured out or you may run into more issues down the road. Those files need a to be drwxrwxrwx. I don't use the ftp client you do so can not let you know how to set them that way other than right click on the file and choose properties then make changes, and you may have to do this more than once to make them change to the combo of numbers that make up the drwxrwxrwx. You should be able to upload your images to the image folder and instead of browsing you choose the path which is catalogname/images/nameof image.extention and then click ok. I have not been able to make this work myself. Thanks for the help usernamenone, The following are the permissions for the directories/files: Catalog - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/images- - rwxrwxrwx Catalog/includes - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/includes/configure.php - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin/Images - -rwxrwxrwx Catalog/Admin/configuration.php - -rwxrwxrwx I tried creating a new category as you suggested, and it successfully created the category, but it would not upload the image. whiteblazer01
On my ftp program, the permissions are set as I described. If I look on the File Browser in the admin section, it does show a 'd' in front of the directories.

usernamenone
Then what do the files inside admin look like? Images and includes should also be drwxrwxrwx. What happens when you try to add a product with image in a catagorie? Does the images for products upload? On my ftp program, the permissions are set as I described. If I look on the File Browser in the admin section, it does show a 'd' in front of the directories.
whiteblazer01
The files (not directories) inside Catalog/Admin have -rw-r--r-- as the permissions. When I add a product with an image, the product gets created with no problems, but it says "No file uploaded" at the top.
usernamenone
And you have looked inside your image folder to see if the image is there? One more thing to check. Look inside your configure.php file for both catalog/includes/configure.php line 23 define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/'); and admin/includes/configure.php 23,24,25 define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/'); define('DIR_WS_ICONS', DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'icons/'); define('DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'images/'); and make sure the path to your images is correct. They should look just like these. The files (not directories) inside Catalog/Admin have -rw-r--r-- as the permissions. When I add a product with an image, the product gets created with no problems, but it says "No file uploaded" at the top.
