Setting up Payment through osCommerce

I've looked through the forums, but didn't see a good discussion on this. I was wondering if there were any good tutorials/details on setting up oscommerce for accepting payments? I'm pretty sure I need a merchant account, and I think I'll need to get a mod to support the account, but other than that, I really haven't a clue. Does anyone have any suggestions on someone to use for cc processing (that would be the merchant account, right)? I think my employer wants to be able to accept checks, as well, though this isn't necessarily critical. Is there a tutorial/resource that will point me in the right direction?
