iscnitzan Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Seems like a stupid question, but I couldn't find a simple unswer.... I have a client who 'linked' products to several categories. Now he is unhappy with these categories and want to change them.... First - you can't tell if the product was linked or duplicated into the category. Then he tried deleting a linked products and that deleted the product completely, from both categories - not good! Now we are timid in deleting categories or products without knowing whats its status (linked or duplicated), but the store offers no indication of it. I could find out these link manually through phpMyAdmin but I need the client to have an indication so he can do the job himself... Anyone has any idea how to solve this?
Jack_mcs Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 When it was copied, it offerred an option to link or duplicate. It sounds like he chose duplicate. When it was deleted, it should also offer an option as to where to delete it from. Just be sure to check the correct place and it should be OK. You should do a backup of the database using admin->tools first, of course. iscnitzan Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 When it was copied, it offerred an option to link or duplicate. The problem is that the store owner did not understand fully what it ment... So some products where duplicated and some where just linked. Now, if product is just linked - a DELETE would remove it from both, and discard of the product! The situation as it stands now: He has a category filled with linked AND duplicated products. He wants to discard of the category ONLY! (not the products) But - if he does just that - the linked products will also be deleted. As it is now he needs to find all LINKED products, duplicate them, figure out which one is which (very confusing), and then delete the linked while keeping the duplicated and moving it back to the correct category.... fffaaai - its even confusing to write.... let alone do. There must be a simpler way to 'un-link' all products, or simply change state from linked to duplicated on an individual product level...
Jack_mcs Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 When you try to delete a product that is in two categories, it asks you from which categories it is to be deleted from. iscnitzan Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 Thanks, You are right - I didn't notice it... I am working on a mod that will add indication column to the products page of admin so one will be able to tell which product is linked / duplicated from category view. It'll be useful for people who messed up their products between categories, like we did.
