spelchek Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Well, after being attacked by the contact-us spam vulnerability last friday, it looks like my site (www.singlemalt.com.au) has been banned/kicked/droipped or whatever you call it from google. I havn't even had the heart to check yahoo.. just dont think i could bear it right now. After nearly 2 yrs of painstaking SEO research and work on my site, to slowly build a great ranking in google (obviously a MAJOR source of customers), I've now lost it all within about a week of opening my store. I just feel gutted. I've already installed the Anti-robot-registration -validation 2.5 mod, but its too late it appears. The damage has been done. New users.. if you do NOTHING else, install this or another anti-spam mod in your oscommerce shop BEFORE YOU GO LIVE. It took one day.. ONE DAY of this attack happening to me, and all id worked for in 2yrs with this site has been destroyed. If anyone out there can offer any advice to me on how to move on this, who to contact, what to do to get back on the right side of the search engines (especially google) i would appreciate your help like you wouldn't believe. My site is www.singlemalt.com.au and I could use any words of advise. Now I get to phone my business partner and tell him the good news.

spelchek Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Umm.. im not sure what to say.. you're right.. but 10 minutes before my original post, it was not showing at all.. I searched under everything whisky related both on google.com.AND google.com.au.. and nothing, nada, zip, zilch. I can't thank you enough for your reply.. you've turned a complete disaster into a complete and genuine relief. My god, that bowling ball in my stomach seems to have gone too. I feel like a bit of an idiot, but a bloody relieved and happy idiot, which i can live with. Anyone got any idea how this would have happend? BTW, if i type 'www.singlemalt.com.au' into google, I only get a few listings for my forum pages .. all listed as just 'singlemalt.com.au'.. why no listings for 'www.singlemalt.com.au' I wonder? when I type single malt without the " " your site comes up Number 1 in the world.!!!! ..... uhhhh most people would kill for that shhhh ;) Thanks again rusty.
Jack_mcs Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 It's common for things like this to happen as they rotate and sync their databases. One should never track it a site so closely. Give it a week or two and if the problem is still there, then make changes to fix it. Otherwise, you can do quite a bit of harm by "fixing" something that isn't broken. Jud Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 and if you want to track you site better, go to Google webmasters... If you site was delisted (which it wasn't), you could request reinclusion. -Jud
spelchek Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Thanks guys, I normally dont check or track our listings each day.. i realize how long rankings can take to change and how fickle google can be.. I was just overwhelmed because a) Ive never had this happen before, and b)it happening so soon after the spam attack. I guess i just put two and two together and panicked. PS.. just got a heap of returned mail emails again this morning :(
