How do I install contributions?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've just downloaded Gunter Sammet's gift registry contribution, but I don't know what to do with it. The installation instructions tell me to:

1.) Unzip and copy the directories into a directory where your webserver can read it

2.) Use the install script

Modify configure.php in admin and catalog. Execute the oscommerce.sql script to create the database

As for 1.) should I place the files in a particular folder? oscommerce or catalog?

As for 2.) how does one "use" the install script? What am I supposed to do with it?

As for the final option, how does one go about "executing" the script?

Hope this is easy and fun for someone to answer. I'm enjoying learning about oscommerce, but I'm feeling a little bit lost right now!

The contribution should come with the files setup up in particular directories. You need to upload them to the same directories in your shop on the server. So if there is a file in the admin directory of the contribution, it should be uploaded to your admin directory. Many contributions have the files in the catalog directory but your shop may not have a catalog directory. Just treat that as the root of your site and you should be OK.

I am not familiar with the contribution so I can't respond to the install script.

To make the changes to the database, you will be using the phpmyadmin program in your hosts control panel. This thread explains the basic of using it.

In general, when you have questions about a contribution, you should post your question in the support thread for that contribution since that is where people using the contribution will see it and those people will probably have more experience with it.
