how do i make my website "secure"?

i am accepting charge cards through the osCommerce front end and want to know how to make it "secure" so that my customers have some peace of mind sending information over the site. what is the best way to do this?

define ssl --> true

but then you must have an ssl ecryption, your host should offer that.

but in general that is just peace of mind, since it only encripts the connection between customer and site, the site itself should be porperly maintained for all the latest security updates posted here.
