Authorize.net - can't use cURL

We're trying desperately to get authorize.net to work with our OSC site. Unfortunately all the new contributions use cURL, and our web host doesn't support that.

They tell me to use fopen() instead, and I have no clue what they're talking about. Do I change the cURL statements in the code to fopen? Or what???

HELP! :'(
