Can't upload IMAGES to catalog - tried all fixes

I cannot upload images in the catalog on a new installation of v2.2 on a shared server (bizland.com.) I have tried the various suggestions: modified the configuration.php file to /catalog/images... checked that uploading images/files is ON in php configuration... but still nothing.

The images in the sample db show up fine. All permission settings are set according to the documentation (and other user suggestions in this forum.)

On a new product page, I do not see what the online documentation shows: section tabs across the top and Browse & Upload buttons for the images. All I have is a plain form page with an image field w/ a Browse button and at the bottom of the catalog form are Preview and Cancel buttons.

I have manually linked to the image in phpAdmin, so I know the db and tables are working. I tried pointing to the image's URL on the server, but then the Preview button does not work at all.

I do not have access to the php.ini file in cgi-bin directory -- it's a shared server and I don't even have a cgi-bin directory in my user's home directory that I have access to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I contacted my hosting company and they set upload permissions to ON. That fixed it. Now I can try the rest of the product.

Maybe this post will help others with same problem. Good luck.
