Web hosting problems - I currently get CPanel for free. What other programs can I use??

Hi

I am currently using a webhosting company and we had had several day outages and I am lokking to change hosts. However, as I use CPanel with my current host for free I need to know what other programs I can use to enable me to change hosts.

 

I would greatly appreciate any advice that is offered.

If your version of CPanel is compatible with your new hosts version of CPanel, your new host can just grab a backup of your whole site and move it for you, assuming your new host will do that for you. If that isn't the case, you will need to use an ftp program to grab your files and move your site.

CPanel is, in my opinion, the best around right now. But even if you wanted to switch it, there isn't anything free, that i know of, and you couldn't do it yourself since it is installed by the host. What is it you want the other program to do? Is there something about CPanel you don't like?

I do like CPanel but I just wanted to check before looking for other hosts as I will need them to be able to provide this as part of the package. Just wanted to know if there was something else I could in the event that I could a host than doesn't offer CPanel

Oh, I see. The next most common control panel is probably Plesk. Any of the professional packages like that should work for you. However, there are hosts that use their own, in-house, created control panels. They work for the most part, from my experience, but they lack many of the functions users of CPanel take for granted. But I think more important than the control panel itself, is to make sure the host has recent software. I've seen hosts (large, well known hosts) that are still using a version of phpmyadmin that is over three years old. That program is very easy to upgrade so it would worry me to go with a host that is too lazy to upgrade it. It would make me wonder about the general condition of their software in general.

Several hosting companies use vDeck which is probably the nicest interface for administering your hosting account I have yet seen.
