Adding fields to the text email

O I am not a programmer, but have this contrb installed and worikng well, with one excepton, and I am pulling my hair out over it. We have emails going to a pda hat accepts only test versions, but the customer gets the HTML version. This wks but I need to add customer comments and customer phone to the text vesions and have tred for days, to no avail.

 

I have modified the catalog/checkout_process to include

$email_order .= EMAIL_TEXT_COMMENT_LEFT .' ' . tep_db_output($order->info['comments']) . "\n\n";

EMAIL_SEPARATOR . "\n";

 

but that does not seem to do it. Can anyone help me with the code for comments and hone number? I would appreciate it.
