duplicates in admin

I have a brand new installation of oscommerce and for some reason in the admin section all of the items everywhere are duplicated like this:

 

(this example is from the 'my store' configuration menu)

 

does anyone have any suggestions how i might fix this?

i've looked thru the code in the /catalog/admin/configuration.php file and i can't find anything that would produce these duplications...

 

can anyone help me with this?

Normally due to multiple installs over the same DB.

If its a clean install, just drop the DB delete the catalog folder and start again.

Shouldnt take more than an hour :D
