Products - Stock Inventory & Product Attributes

I have created a catalog of different products and entered the stock quantity for each. Can I still assign color and size attributes to each product and have the inventory match up? For example:

 

I have 3 different colors and 3 different sizes of shirts to sell but in the same style. But my inventory for each size is different and color are different. Example...I have 3 light blue large and 2 pink large) Can I group these items using attributes? Or do I have to list each size & color separately in order to not mess of the inventory?
