Hello

Im trying to learn how to install contributions.

So this is what i know from the simplified instuctions that came with the Ultrapics contribution. Oh and my first problem is i cant backup my files, because my admin section says this at the top: " Error: Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php." So i dont know how to fix that.

Ok so after Im able to backup files, i have to paste the files in the contribution over my existing files. Question: I bought a commercial template, so will these contribution files overwite the layout of my existing files? the file names are:

admin/categories.php

admin/includes/languages/(Your-Language)/categories.php

catalog/product_info.php

catalog/popup_image.php

And add new file:

catalog/includes/modules/additional_images.php

Then here comes the part that stumps me: "run the SQL script into your database with PHPMyAdmin or other DB Manager."

So how do i do that?

And when all this is done correctly, my .php webpage files will be changed and my admin/backend section will jive with the changes?

Thanks for any info, im still trying to grasp the concept of osCommerce.

Backups folder - In the admin folder create a folder called backups

Chmod it to 755 (permissions)

That should sor that out, Also that folder is only for backing up the database from within the admin section this does NOT backup your php files. you will need to make seperate backups of those.

If you have bought a template it should have an install folder inside it. Just upload the whole lot to your host then goto www.uredomain.com/FOLDER YOU UPLOADED TEMPLATE TO/install and follow the instructions like you will have done for you standard install unless you did it via a script from your control panel.

I wouldnt just upload and overwrite your current files as the maybe extra databases\config to go with the template.

Thanks for your reply.

I've sorted out the backup problem.

I dont know how to do the install, i had somebody do it for me.

Ok so i've found a manual install.txt that came with the contribution, so i guess i will navigate through the miles of code and start adding and replacing code in my current .php files.

And after a friend has showed me how to run the SQL script into my database, I wonder where beginners learn to do all of this. Is there a course or tutorial i missed?
