1054 - Unknown column 'purchased_without_account' in 'field list'

I have been having people tell me that they have been getting this error

 

1054 - Unknown column 'purchased_without_account' in 'field list'

select customers_id, customers_email_address, purchased_without_account from customers where customers_email_address = [email protected]'

[TEP STOP]

 

It happends when they create 2 accounts with the same e-mail address.

 

I was wandering is there any way to check if the e-maill allready in use and display a message?
