Guest Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 Ok! Idiots is a bit strong - maybe 'site owners admin' is more accurate! The present admin panel has plenty of places where the curious or unwary could easily destroy their site - like in file manager, shipping details, taxes, zones, etc etc. What about two admin panels? One - as at present - for 'power users'. The other a 'store owners' admin with just the categories and products, order processing and cutomers in? I write this as a web designer thinking of customising OSC for clients. In fact the 'Power User' admin panel could switch on/off the menus available in the 'Store Owners' admin panel.
Paul_C Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 Setting up a user permissions system for the administration would be A Good Thing . I believe there were a couple contributions for things like this, but I don't know how well they work with recent snapshots. seCret steVe Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 http://www.oscommerce.com/downloads.php/co...ions,124/type,3 this contribution creates it so that you can have power users or just a user that can use only parts of the admin such as the config section or the tools section and that is it....i suggest taking a look at it....worth while Steve
doubleforte Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Which contribution is this? The link is old and doesn't work anymore. thanks brian
Guest Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 What happened to Admin Access With Levels? When I first started messing with osCommerce, I tested every contrib. Admin Access With Levels v1.6 was the best.....IMO I still have a copy of this, but I would like to know why it isn't on the contribs list.

I think there were several contribs with similar names mixed up together--somebody tried to straighten out the mess and it got tossed. For the record, here's the history: Updated version 1.6.0 (03/02/2004) by Eric Montgomery (Islander2u) [email protected] Updated version 1.5.1 (17/11/2003) by hOZONE from http://www.oscommerceitalia.com [email protected] Updated version 1.5.0 (03/11/2003) by hOZONE from http://www.oscommerceitalia.com [email protected] Updated version 1.4.6 (29/04/2003) by Karen Archer [email protected] Updated version 1.4.5 (04/08/2003) by Matthias Niess [email protected] Updated version 1.4.4 (03/05/2003) by David D.
