shellbrain Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I just noticed when I click on "Confirm Order" it takes me the the paypal page, but it doesn't itemize the products or their quantities. It used to, but I must have messed it up... Can someone tell me where to start looking? I just got my site set up with SSL and I thought it was all working... except for this. Could the SSL cert be part of this problem? Also, I have paypal set up to autoreturn the customer to my site, and that was working before, but now its not. Any ideas? I would call paypal, but I don't imagine they will be much help here. Thanks.
Daemonj Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Assuming you are using the PayPal IPN contribution, which you should be, then set Admin > Modules > Paypal IPN to be aggregate. Note that doing the above will likely cause you more problems that just displaying the total to the customer. "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. shellbrain Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 I have not installed any paypal contributions... are you talking about this one?: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...arch,paypal+ipn I don't understand what that will do for me... please explain. Thanks.
MikeXRyan Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I have not installed any paypal contributions... are you talking about this one?: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...arch,paypal+ipn I don't understand what that will do for me... please explain. Thanks. I can tell you. It is a Godsend! Because it does exactly what it's title implies "Instant Payment Notification". And it means that you will not have to go into PayPal to accept the payment before the customer can receive the confirmation that his payment has been received. It is done instantly by your system once the PayPal payment is confirmed. I'm new to this too and went around and around in these forums trying to get a straight answer and was probably not explaining what my problem was properly because I got a bevy of answers. But the clear winner was "install IPN". Now on a personal level I did try to install IPN myself but I'm a business manager and not an IT guru. I have installled some easy-to-install (just add this file, just replace this file) contributions but the IPN had me stumped so I went out and hired a well-experienced guy to do it for me. OTOH, if you are in command of your geek-abilities you can probably install it yourself and the folks here are very helpful. Mike B)
Daemonj Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 The PayPal IPN payment module should be fairly easy to install. "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. ♥Vger Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 The official osCommerce Pay Pal IPN id just a set of new files, with no need to modify any others. It's just a matter of "install this here, install that there". Unfortunately it does not auto-return people to your website, but what it does do is to pre-save the order before it goes to the Pay Pal website, so if the customer does not return you still have a copy of the order. Vger
Daemonj Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I believe that the Auto Return can be enabled within your PayPal IPN Settings but don't quote me on that. ;) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. ♥Vger Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Auto-return can be enabled within your Pay Pal account, but not within the osCommerce Pay Pal IPN. The problem is, even with auto-return enabled it still takes a few seconds for the auto-return to kick in and many people close their browser or go elsewhere thinking they've finished on the Pay Pal site and then the order emails don't get sent out and the Pay Pal IPN Order Status stays on 'Preparing [Pay Pal IPN]' Vger I believe that the Auto Return can be enabled within your PayPal IPN Settings but don't quote me on that. ;)
Daemonj Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Thanks for the clarification and additional information Rhea. ;) "Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. Bottom line, it does work and works pretty well for accepting payment through PayPal. Mike

Vger, That is what I want! I just want to make sure I am installing the right contrib because when I searched for "paypal IPN" on the contrib section I found five or six different versions. I was going to go with "Paypal IPN with Fee"... But there is also: Paypal_Shopping_Cart_IPN Paypal IPN Icon at Checkout PayPal IPN v0.981 for Milestone 2 PayPal IPN Gateway for osCommerce PayPal IPN v0.98 for Milestone 2 PayPal IPN Those last two are pretty ancient... Which one are you guys installing? Thanks.

Does that mean that the customer will be charged for the paypal fees related to each transaction? What I am really going after is the contrib that saves the order before they are redirected to the Paypal site, so that even if the autoreturn doesn't work, I have a copy of what they bought. Somebody please send me a link to that contrib!!! I am still confused about which one it is. Thanks in advance...

It's called osCommerce PayPal IPN Module v1.0 For 2.2MS2 (so search the contribs for that) but once you get on there you actually want to download version 1.4
shellbrain Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 It's called osCommerce PayPal IPN Module v1.0 For 2.2MS2 (so search the contribs for that) but once you get on there you actually want to download version 1.4 I've installed it and everything is working fine. Thanks for all the information. I do still have one problem - when the customer is transferred to the paypal site, the products they are buying are not listed out. Instead it just says the name of my store, qty of 1, and a subtotal. It still breaks out the shipping charge, but it used to itemize each product, so I must have changed something. Anyone know how to fix this?
