Two Stupid Questions

Hi,

A total newbie here, so please be kind and use laymen's terms. I'm just starting out with my first online business and I have a couple quick, but probably stupid questions. I purchased my site pre-built, so I'm pretty dumb when it comes to all of this.

1. Do all photos of my inventory have to be converted to GIF from jpeg before being added to my site?

2. If I add a product to my site that has say, 2 in quantity/available, and even though they are sold individually, once one is ordered/purchased, does OsCommerce automatically update/change the quantity available for that item?

Any information that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

1 - No.

2 - As long as you have the options set that way in admin->configuration->Stock.

Hi Jack,

Thank you for getting back to me. So I don't have to convert my inventory pictures to GIF? So I can add my inventory pictures as jpeg? I'm confused...someone on here said that in order for them to be seen on my site, they had to be in GIF format. Please clarify.

Hi there! I am new also. LOL. I have very few photos that are GIF. Most images are JPG.

Hi,

Wow...so I don't have to convert them to GIF. Thank God I asked now, before I took and converted the rest of my inventory pictures. Geez.

Many Thanks,

One more "stupid" question,

Is there any situation that having pics in GIF format would be better than jpeg? I know jpegs are better color wise, but just wondering as I'm new to all of this.

Whoever said jpg's are required is mistaken. Gif's are normally used when you need a transparent background.

Hi Jack!

Thank you so much for clarifying. You've helped to save what's left of my remaining brain cells!

Many Blessings,
