I don't have the time to link you ... but ... well, I would say that if I am starting an OSC store from scratch, the following are mandatory:

 

1) Header Tags Controller (jackmsc's last contribution)

2) Ultimate SEO URL's (chemos' thing)

3) Purchase Without Account (PWA). Fast Easy Checkout (FEC) is also good, it's what I use, but it requires advanced installation time because of a few things. PWA is good. I mean, let's face it. Nobody wants to create an account, and face spam e-mails, give up their personal info, etc., etc. ... they wanna put in their credit card numbers and receive their product a few days later.

(4) Image Magic On The Fly Thumbnails. This will not compromise the integrity of your images, but it will reduce their sizes from 100kb to 5 kb, so it's a necessity.

 

There are many others I'd recommend, the above 4 aforementioned are mandatory, in my opinion.

Yeah ... well I have something like 48 contribs on my site, but you said the basics .. so I just gave you the basics, in my opinion. I have those, also, but not Paypal .... I'm anti paypal.
