Using product attributes?

I have a catalog setup for a company that sells tack for horses (saddles, bridles, etc.). One of their big claims to fame is a "customize your own" type of feature for some of the tack. I'm trying to figure out how in the world to use product attributes to accomplish the following (OR if I should be doing this some other way??)...

For example, there is one bridle (goes on the horse's head, where the reins attach) that can be customzed in a number of different ways. First, the customer choses the color of the rawhide that's on the bridle (black or neutral), then they chose the concho (decoration) style, which can be one of 13 different styles. Each style of concho has its own style number, which they would like to be reflected in the ordering process. So using our previous example, lets say the customer chose the bridle that's base item number is 2055. The black rawhide is "BA" and the concho they chose is 8V (a pink one with a star). So when the item is ordered, it should show up as 2055-BA8V.

How would I set this up in the attributes? I'm so confused!!!

I would appreciate a nudge in any direction!

Thanks so much!!!

If you use the product attributes plus contribution, it is easy to do this. Just imagine each selection a different customization instead of a different topping.

Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!

Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience.

The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!

And there is a graphics as attributes contribution also that you could use with it if needed.

That looks like just what I need. I searched for "Product Attributes Plus" in the contribs, but didn't come up with an exact match... can you link me to the one you used so I don't get it confused with a different one? Thanks!
