problems/questions about different shipping methods

Hi all,

i want to configure an online shop for car parts.

Everything works fine, but i have a problem with the different shipping options.

I'm using OSC MS2.2 with the plugin Prod2Ship installed.

Because there is only one shipping option in this module, i have expanded the shipping options to two per article.

There is one big problem, if a customer is choosing different articles with different shipping methods.

For example:

There is one article which can be picked up or send by parcel service, another article can only be picked up (because it is too large or too heavy)

At the moment it depends on the order, the customer is adding the articles to his basket.

If he puts the article with two options first, than the article which can only be picked up, it shows two shipping options anyway.

If the order is changed and the customer puts the pickup-only article first, then only the pickup method is shown, indipendent from the next articles in the basket.

It looks like, that the shop only looks behind the first article and selects the deposited shipping method(s)

Do you have any ideas, how i can solve this problem ?

The search wasn't very helpful

Greetings and thank you in advance

I recommend using MVS instead. It's actively used and developed, and will give you the same functionality.

oh sorry, thats an information i have forgotten to post.

I have taken a look at MVS and i think i was a little bit too stupid to add the shipping modules. I have installed only one module (for testing purposes), for DHL, but it doesn't appear at the page with the shipping fee after the customer has filled his shopping basket and is going to pay.

Are there any tricks to install the modules correctly ?

If there is an option, i will have a second look at MVS.

Greetings willi

You do have to assign your products to a vendor. I don't think you can not assign products to a vendor and have a default shipping be displayed or anything.

I think it's probably more worth your time to get MVS working than this older, not actively developed (and less actively supported) contribution.

I personally have had zero trouble getting MVS to work, though I only ever needed it on one store. I'm not familiar with some of the possible gotchas, so I'd check in the support thread.

Many thanks for your quick answer.

Well, i think i will have a second look at MVS the next days.

Maybe i will ask you again, if i'm in trouble ;)

Thanks, willi

It sounds like you could probably do something similar to what I had to do with long items (over 610cm) for UK postage.

It involves adding a field to the products table and the shopping cart to act as a flag and then using that flag in the shipping calcs. As I had to do extensive calculation for the 13 possible shipping methods (based on weight, "long item" and destination, I built it into the same calcs but I'm sure it would be a lot simpler for your situation. Probably just a flag in the shipping module to only allow the one option if the particular item is in the shopping cart.

Hi Steve,

yes, thats the solution i consider.

But if i do this, the shipping method depends only by the first article in shopping cart. The shipping options of all other items will be ignored.

On the other side, i have installed the MVS into a fresh setup of OSC. In addition i installed two vendors, one with two shipping options and one with one shipping option only

I will show you a picture of my sample shopping cart below (please ignore the german language, it doesn't matter for the problem. The problem exists in english version too).

There are two articles in the shopping cart, one with Zone rates and pickup, the other is set to pickup only:

My picture

The problem is, that the zone rates of the first article should not be shown, because the second article allows pickup only.

Why are the shipping methods shown for all articles seperately. I expect, that only pickup is shown for all articles, becaus there is one item in the shopping cart with this option only.

Thanks in advance, willi
