How Do I Increase The Width Of The Left Column?

Hi,

 

A total newbie here, so please be kind and use laymen's terms. :blink:

 

I would like to increase the width of the left column on my site, however, I tried doing as one member suggested and it didn't work.

 

They said to go into File Manager, then into Includes, then application_top_php and look for "define_Box_Width" and change the pre-set 125 to whatever you need.

 

I did that in application_top_php on this line:

 

define('BOX_WIDTH', 125); // how wide the boxes should be in pixels (default: 125)

 

I changed it to 135 in both places on this line and saved it, but when I checked my site, the column was the same.

 

What am I doing wrong? Is this the correct place even to change the column width? I would greatly appreciate any help.

The width setting is only a suggestion. If something in the column is wider than the setting, the width will expand to accomdate it.

Like I said, I changed the 125 setting to 135 and it still looks the same. It does not expand to accomodate longer/more words.

 

Please take a look at my site www.azuremoonjewelry.com to see what I'm referring to.

 

In the Categories box, "Carved Gemstone Animals" and "Gemstone Power Bracelets" continue down to the next line. I want the entire category to be on one line, ergo, the column width needs to be increased.

 

Any further help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it looks the same because the width is greater than 135. It is currently around 180. If you set the width to 200, or possibly more, the column will have the same width for all items in it. But that is a very large left column, I think. It would be better to reduce the size, in my opinion.

Thanks again for getting back to me. I bumped up the column width just a bit more and now everything fits on one line and the column isn't overly wide...and I'm happy...ha! :thumbsup:
