Hi

 

I was having a nightmare trying to get a flash movie to load onto the index.php file so i made index.html as my home page, uploaded the flash movie and it works fine.

 

is there anything wrong with using html pages, i would like to known if you could build almost an entire site in html and just use the os php pages for adding items to cart and payment etc.

 

just a thought

There is nothing wrong with using html pages. Just if you using index.html make sure your catalog/index.php is not in the root directory or you'll run into problems.

Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!

 

Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience.

 

The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!

You stand the chance of losing session ID's when you do this. It is not a fatal problem and many shops run this way. If you get complaints from your visitors though, you should fix it. Better to just fix the flash problem to begin with, I think. There are contributions showing how to use flash and examples in the forums.

There is nothing wrong with using html pages. Just if you using index.html make sure your catalog/index.php is not in the root directory or you'll run into problems.

 

how do i make sure the index.php is not the root directory...

Well, if the address is www.your_domain.com/catalog/index.php then it isn't in the root. For that, the address would read www.your_domain.com/index.php

 

Pay attention to what Jack stated. If your customers browsers don't accept cookies, by going to a HTML page, they wiil lose their session.

at the moment i've got gumproductions.co.uk/cocoshop/index.html and cocoshop/index.php, i've tested the site in IE, Firefox, Mozilla and slimbrowser and it all works fine, other than a script error which only seems to appear in IE... states that there is a syntax error on lines 9 and 20 although i've had no luck finding what they are...

Hi, could the fact that i've got a index.html and a index.php have something to do with the syntax errors. It states that there are errors on lines 15 and 22... Can anyone spot the errors. The site seems to work fine but i don't really want to publish the site on its final domain (cocoshop.co.uk) with these errors

As i said i haven't noticed any actual problems other than this apparent syntax error, i'm not to clued up on html or php, i'm more of a wysiwyg man!!
