JWCravers Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 We've been operating an OSC store for some time now and each item has maybe 5 images, making for a total of over 4500 image files. They are all kept in the images folder. None are wasteful in file size. We've had numerous problems recently with slow load times, etc. Our ISP tells us that the problem is that we have too many files in a single folder, specificaly in this case, the images folder. Their suggestion is to create a series of sub folders to keep the image file count down in each folder. Is this BS or what? BTW, we're on a Linux dedicated server. It only has 512 mb of ram. We get enough traffic to be occasionally listed in the top 200 sites. Thanks for any help.
khime Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Yes we had this problem , you can try using a image subdirectory contribution http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,3873 It makes it easier to manage the files as well This should be a standard feature in the new oscommerce hopefully

We added folders "a" thru "z" and then manually edited the locations in the products table. Sometimes I don't quite totally believe our ISP. I imagine everyone else that's been around a while fels that way too. :D
