credit card as backup for check payments

my client recently asked that for first time customers, if they select check as payment option, they should be able to fill out credit card details as backup option because of check fraud...

 

the suggesstion was if they selected the check payment radio button, they show an additional box, saying if you are first time customer enter credit card number...

 

for some reason i feel its little bit redundant feature... any other suggesstion is appreciated.. thanks
