llsuperstar Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Hi Everyone, I am new to all this and wanted to make my website, ran into a wall already and I am in need of help. I did take a few classes in college regarding computer programming but those are not helping me right now. I have read the pinned topic on this forum too. I downloaded osCommerce file and couldn't read the php file, I read around in the forum trying to figure this all first, I searched for a site to download for free so I could read php files..I couldn't find one. I also downloaded VertigoServ. I have my domain name purchased already...no hosting yet (do I need to pay go daddy for this?) So my questions are: Where can I go to download for free a file to read a php How/what do I "paste" to get Vertigo Serv as my server? Do I need hosting from go daddy? I will have around 10 products on my site with about 15 options for each. Since I have never done anything like this before should I just pay go daddy for a site...or is it that difficult for me to get it running myself? :'(

The one I use is PHP Designer 2 - Personal from MPSoftware and it will read and write multiple file types. Search around, you'll find it. With the low price of hosting these days, it's probably easier to buy hosting that to try and set up your own server (and most ISPs frown on this and want you to buy their business plan). However, if you're a masochist, go for it. In a hosting platform, go for a linux box with MySQL (1 or more databases available) and, if you can, a shared SSL certificate. If you want a recommendation, PM me and I'll tell you the great deal I got. From what I've read, GoDaddy has some issues with OsC, but, I have no first hand experience and, when I installed someone's OsC there, I had no problem. Since I have never done anything like this before Boy, how many times have a heard a woman say this before LMAO. Rest assured, there are people here that will help with any problems you'll run into.
