Hi, I sell magazines and these can be purchased in two versions. Paperback or pdf download. can someone please advise how to differentiate between the two on oscommerce.

note: i have tried setting up 2 attributes (paperback, pdf download) but the shipping is always added on to each item.

i'm really struggling, can someone advise, thanks!

I might be way off here, but doesn't a product's weight determine whether it's downloadable? So if you have one single product that's got attributes of paperback or pdf, you're only going to have one weight field - which presumably is set to something other than 0.

If I'm wonky in my logic or you've got contribs installed that change stuff, my apologies.

I'm only a newbie, but believe I read the same thing -- that free shipping is accomplished by setting the weight field to zero. I'm guessing that to do this you need to set up the downloadable product as a separate product. At least this is what I'm doing with my e-book versions of our books.

Unfortunately, for me, this solution isn't working because I'm calculating shipping using the "per item" module. Using that method, OSC wants to add shipping regardless of the weight. I'm hoping someone knows of a workaround.

Many thanks in advance, if anyone does...

Thats pretty much what i have too. I have 3 seperate per item charges depending on how far the customer is from me, uk, european and international. These items are all set to 0 so i cannot understand how the shipping will not be included if i crete a new item at weight 0.

any ideas anyone, we're totally stuck here

I guess it's pretty much fend for yourself here. I found a few "contributions" which may be able to solve your problem. It gets pretty complex though...

I am looking for a similar solution. Did you get somewhere?

Following the manual, downloadable items are not being charged shipping. Done that. Works. But...

I have value based shipping.

If I combine a downloadable item and a shippable item, the full shipping amount for the value of all products is charged.

Any way out of that (other than apply weight based?)

Thx

totally struggling here, any luck?

I switched to weight based shipping, was easier for me. I'm fine.

For downloadable items you need to follow exactly the os manual.

Looking again at the attributes...

The standard attributes of osc seem not to support different weights, so it is not a good idea to have paperback and download as different attributes - unless there is a contribution that fixes that.

If not, search google for people who can program one 4U.

ok i tried creating a separate item for the downloadable version and i came across several problems.

1) Although the link appeared after payment, it was also available when i looked at my orders under my account (BEFORE PAYMENT WAS TAKEN)

2) I use per item shipping and when ordering a paperback as well as a downloadable version, shipping was added on for both items

losing the will to live
