OK, it has taken me almost 2 months to get my store up and running, and just when I thought that the end was in sight - when I click on "log yourself in", the "create an account" or "checkout" , I am directed to a "cannot find server" page. I do know enough about websites to know that there must be some kind of hyperlink not set up properly or something, but I have read through the entire Istallation Manual and have searched several posts in the Community Forums and cannot find anything that addresses this. What am I missing?? :(

First, can we have the url to see the problem?

Ok, the problem is immediately apparent.

When you click on account or checkout, it tries to go to a secure (SSL) site (https).

If you don't have a SSL certificate (shared or purchased), you have to set SSL to false in catalog/includes/configure.php and catalog/admin/includes/configure.php

If you DO have one, post your catalog/includes/configure.php file (asterisking out the server information at the bottom) and I'll see what the problem seems to be.

OK, I think I am figuring out how to change all that - but this has brought me to questioning if I should have an SSL certificate. My hosting company sells one for $99 US/year which includes installation - is this a good deal?? How much more is this going to complicate everything - am I going to have to re-do everything if I choose to install an SSL certificate?? Oh, so many questions - again I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HELP!!

The short answer is yes, and no.

Yes, you would benefit from getting a SSL certificate for your site as people would feel more comfortable shopping there (have you ever bought anything on-line and looked for the padlock).

No, $99 bucks is NOT a good price. Shop around, you can do better.

And you're welcome (although I must be slipping because the last lady I help with stuff like this said she'd love me forever LMAO)
