chrisbare
Has anyone done a CD Store with OS Commerce? I've looked through the contrib and haven't seen what I was hoping for. I want to display the name, artist, duration, sample mp3 etc for each track. It seems like there are other products where enumerated details would be helpful. Is there anything like this which I can start with? -- Chris Bare [email protected]
CC
If you need a starting base, why not get the WYSIWYG addon for product info screen, and add the detail you need there. You can create tables with the latest release of this. But basically you can then enter the info as you please. Give that a try if you can not code your own hack. CC. jloyzaga
I need to get more detail here - I'm trying to get a CD and MP3 store going and a WYSIWYG anything makes me interested. Can you elaborate? :?
BenAllfree
My new CD store is coming online in a few days. Were you looking for mods to attach samples? I haven't done anything like that, but I have: - integrated phpbb to some extent - installed the WYSIWYG editor - gotten file downloads working - installed PayPal IPN - made a simple 'large image' mod
mattice
You will need serious changes done on the code, depending on what you want exactly. If you are looking for a shop that allows you to add artists, recordlabels, tracks, samples etc. I wouldn't recommend using osCommerce stock. (You can, but it will be all static html in productsdescription) What you need is new tables to hold all that data so you can do cross-queries. (ie Show me all cd's where Maria Carey featured / Show all cd's that have a track with the word 'blue' on them) Doing this through the description field will sooner or later lead to problems. It's a big job but IMHO worth doing if you're serious on selling CD's. Rachel
It's a big job but IMHO worth doing if you're serious on selling CD's. This converstaion looks to have started a year ago? Did anything come of it? I have a client who I think wants to do the same thing - they sell CD's, and would like to have sample tracks available. I don't think that they are too worried about being able to search the tracks, it's not a huge site. And by "big job" what are we talking? A weeks programming? A months? graymarketmedia
Hi guys!! We are in the exact same position here!! Why don't we all form up and get this thing done? I have a client who wants something like this (Band Bio, Discography, Cds, Tracks, Purchasing, etc.) and it sounds like there is a definite need for this. Has anyone done any serious discovery into what needs to change? It sounds like to me the biggest problem is: Manufacturers != Artists .. but with some major mods we might be able to do it that way.. Categories != Genres... but once again.. some mods.. And need to be able to have multiple categories per item.. Need to add tracks for each cd.. and of coarse.. need to modify interface to handle each. Also, we want to allow bands to put the tracks up themselves so we would need an interface for admins to add cds and choose mp3 tracks to u/l.. jloyzaga
Chet, Trying to get an MP3 shop online for Aussie Smooth Jazz Artists - how easy would it be to do a download site? Joe
chet
I think you have to make small samples for people to listen and when they want to buy you need the download function. I think it can be done. I was thinking for myself that it would be nice that people can listen to the music samples and make there own album. For me It's different because I want to sell these Jazz cd's mostly to Japan. In the store there will also be album's from Hans and Candy Dulfer.
graymarketmedia
My concern is that it only seems to be indexed by artist.. I was hoping for something more like Amazon.com.. Where you could browse by artist, genre, name, etc.. and then while viewing one cd you could jump to other cds from that artist, an artist profile, see what genre's it is classified under.. If we do undergo development of this modification it would go in that direction I think.
radders
I've been looking for something similar. The additional difficulty with published music (unlike books) of course is the copyright issue in that getting permission to put any length of sample on your website is a nightmare. chet
In holland and I think it's all over the world the sample must stay under 1 minute. Then you don't have to pay. You also have to ask permission from the artist.
Rachel
Your store looks like what we want, are you able/willing to share your code? chet
But the store so far is a normal Oscommerce. One of the addons is the wysiwyg editor which make it easy to add music samples. When I make some other contibutions I will let the you know.

Guest
Sounds to me like you really want an enhanced search routine that looks in the description area for specific keywords. (maybe embedding XML into the description). http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...er=asc&start=10 may offer a partial solution.
SchmoobeeDrew
I have a web radio station based out of Vancouver. My playlist consists of only local canadian djs. I promote them through the site as well as promoters us my site to post their events. After some research I have determined that OSC will be perfect for the local record store to sell their top 100 list on my site. I have been approached by some of these DJs who also produce their own tracks to have an eccommerce site. So I was wondering if their has been more development on this site regarding MP3 sample and downloading? I will keep reading the forums, I have been searching under the keyword MP3. Any suggestions from anyone is greatly appreciated Regards, Drew http://schmoobeedrew.hopto.org (free membership required)
stiletto
Greetings, I think everyone on this post is looking for the same thing. I run an indie label and have found OSCommerse to be very useful. I sell CD's online (very few) and would like to make OSCommerse drive my whole site (rather than having a cart site and a regular site) here are the functions I would like Band Bios Search By Band Search By Label CD Track Listings with MP3 Samples Perhaps Video Downloads An image Gallery I have looked into this, and it all seems very doable. Many other mods that are far more complex exist. The scope, however, is beyond my knowledge to implement, and I don't necessarily have the time, or the money to contract a programmer. My suggestion is this, if we all individually chip in a nominal portion of money, then perhaps collectively we will have enough loot to contract a programmer. Don't get me wrong, I strongly support the open source philosophy, but you are at the mercy of when and if someone want to put the time in to do the work. I say, we all chip in $30 or so and get someone to do it. Please contact me if you are interested.
