It's been awhile since I first messed around with HTML before teachers even knew about it. I just lunched a new business here in Ontario and decided I want to put together a presence on the web. Turn it into an online store. What is a good and easy editor that has all the functionalty for editing PHP and running script test on it? thankyou for any help you can offer.

I love HTML-KIT (you can edit PHP with this tool as well). It's a freebie and relatively robust.

Not very functional Notepad. I use EditPad Lite which is free. Crimson Editor is another good free one.

You'd be best to set up a test server, to check your scripts. Do that online or locally with WAMP, XAMPP or EasyPHP.

I find EditPad Lite to be excellent as well. I also use Dreamweaver but when I want to be sure NOTHING is changed, EditPad Lite is the way to go. It was recommended to me years ago by a fellow who develops online merchant payment systems.

Totally agree, EditPad is top drawer, wouldn't be without it. I have DreamweaverMX also but never use it.

Another essential utility worth its weight..............if it weighed anything  is WinMerge. It has saved me oodles of time installing some mods.

I use ConText which I swear by and it's free. Unfortunately at this moment the site seems to be down.

Wow thanks for the responces guys. I just hit the library this morning to get some php, books to study. Then I'm gonna see what I can come up with. I'll end up trying all the suggestions out except for notepad.. I aint that smart.. :) I think I'll end up getting Dreamweaver or something were I can test out Script. I heard that Microshaft is coming out with OFFICE 2007 Maybe the new Frontpage will offer it. I allways liked the easy script testing etc in it but Mcrosoft will probably make it so you can't access outside script very easy.. I guess we will see. I wan tto get the store up and running tested ext. then I'm gonna get the SSL Certificate and make my launch.

I'm using PHP Editor 2007 - Personal also a free program that lets you edit a multitude of coding types and the advanced release of Microsoft Expressions (the replacement for FrontPage in O2007). I find PHP Editor to be an extremely useful program and I highly recommend it.

Something else you might want to get is a code comparison program. I'm using Beyond Compare (not free), but, worth the price just in not becoming "code blinded" LOL

PSpad does all my text editing, from csv to hex and does search and replace well.

Actually, just thought about my answer. I havn't used notepad in days, but i hadn't thought about it.

I've been using the Editor in "Cute FTP" for a lot of edits. Multi-line CTRL-F Finding, line numbers, auto-updating to the site. It's been nice.

For developing OSC stores, I cannot imagine giving yourself a harder job than using Notepad... :-)

To the OP - try Macromedia Homesite - it's the industry standard coding editor and a fantastic tool for working with OSC.
