Changing default message for "insufficient quantity"

First of all, I'd like the item to show out of stock BEFORE someone tries to buy it, as it can be frustrating to see something you want and try to buy it only to find out you can't. But even if I can't have a 0 quantity return an "out of stock" message on the product description page, I'd sure like to change the default message, which is:

"Products marked with Out of Stock dont exist in desired quantity in our stock.

Please alter the quantity of products marked with (Out of Stock), Thank you"

I changed the **** to "out of stock", but the message is misleading for my store. Many of my items are one of a kind pieces. The other option is to simply take the product off the page if it's sold, which frankly seems more logical to me; can anyone give me a link to a contribution that addresses this or tell me which of the 100's of php pages this may be found on?

Thanks

hey robr...thanks so much. I'd been digging around for a few hours...I thought it would be in products someplace. Oh well. I found it and got it displaying a more appropriate message. I looked over the contributions, and while one of them may work for me, I'm not inclined to mess with it right now. Thanks so much for your answer to my question!

best,
