HELP! How Do I Add Another/New Link?

Hi,

I'm a newbie, so please excuse my ignorance. My site was pre-built, so I know next to nothing about OsCommerce and php. I want to add a new line/link to the 'Information' section of my site, like 'Shipping' or 'Contact Us'.

I read Rabbit's very detailed answer as to do this (thank you Rabbit), however, I'm still a bit confused. I understand everything about copying another existing page and making the wanted changes, but do I copy it to say, Note Pad? How many different pages am I supposed to be copying? And how do I get it added or upload it to the list under 'Define Languages'? I'm assuming that's where it would have to go.

I need step by step instructions please. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Wade!

Thanks again for getting back to me! I've already tried to decipher the info you gave me and am completely lost...it's completely talking over my head. I had found a response to this from "rabbitseffort" and it made some sense. His instructions were as follows:

Step 1 - copy an existing page like conditions.php and save with a new file name, which I did...in Note Pad...and made the necessary changes and saved it again.

Step 2 - copy an existing language page like /catalog/includes/languages/english/conditons.php and save it with your new file name. Am I copy and saving an entirely different/second page than from the first?

Step 3 - open /catalog/includes/finenames. - where the heck is that? Am I supposed to be copying and saving this too? Are these all different pages?

Step 4 - add a link to your site on whatever page/box you want it in. If adding it to the 'Information' box, for example, go to /catalog/includes/boxes/information.php.

Step 5 - open up /catalog/includes/languages/english.php and add your new define and save the file. Finally he says to upload the files to your server and, sucess!

How many different pages am I supposed to be copying, changing and saving?

All these "directions" as to where to open a file, i.e., /catalog/includes/languages/english.php - where is that? I'm assuming I go into my admin, then tools, then define languages, then english.php - or am I wrong? I don't understand 'the path' everyone on here uses.

How do I upload all these new pages and where?

In my admin, then tools, then 'File Manager' I see a listing of folders and what I think are files, and at the bottom of that page, it has 3 buttons; 'upload', 'new file' and 'new folder'. Am I supposed to be using these? And if so, which one?

ARGH! I'm totally and completely lost and feel like an idiot. I don't know the first thing about all of this, and as grateful as I am for all the help, everyone is talking way over my head.

I need step by step...total hand holding if you will...as to how to do this. I don't understand why there isn't some sort of beginners manual...in laymen's terms for us idiots.

If you could please point me in the right direction, I might be able to save what's left of my remaining brain cells and actually get my site looking the way I want it.

Many Blessings,

Azure Moon :'(
