images dissapear... HELP!

I installed the OS commerce on a site. It is not yet on SSL because I have to first figure out how it works. I set up the catalog, everything was working to perfection... yesterday I was showing it to my client to get approval and an image from a subcategory was missing.

I tried to reupload it, nothing. I did the edit on the admin panel, reuploaded it and got a message

My host said it had to do with permissions and he said he fixed it. I tried again today and now I get the new message:

To my surprise, now the manufacturer's images are gone too. I was able to reupload those and they show again, however the subcategory image is still xed out.

Then as I did a check out test, although I am "purchasing" in Florida it doesn't add the tax at check out...

Can this corrupt itself or is there something I am missing here?

sales tax I was able to fix deleting the tax rate, adding a new rate and now it shows at check out.

The images are still missing... :?
