SeanB Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 So we finished our first order today, it's been shipped. The "item delivered" email has gone out. I consider this closed. I'm just wondering what most of you guys do now? do you delete it, do you leave all the items in there as "Delivered", or do you print out the final copy and then delete the digital one? Just wondering what your experience has tought you. My website's address is in My Profile, since it's not allowed to be in my signature.
MSP Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 personally - leave it there as delivered (although I have changed the word delivered to shipped)
SeanB Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 That's a good idea to change the message to "Shipped", could cause confusion. Any other points of view? My online store is the "online ordering system" for a real store, so everything we do is also rung through our regular till. I think we may leave it as "shipped" though, unless someone can give me a reason not too (database size?) My website's address is in My Profile, since it's not allowed to be in my signature.
digipete Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Sean, If you are using simple Credit Card processing, instead of a credit card processing gateway, then I would recommend that you keep a hard copy, but delete the order. That way people's credit card numbers aren't being permanently stored on your server. These things have been known to be hacked. For complete safety, and improved credit card verification, a payment gateway is the best way to go. Just my $0.02 Pete

knifeman Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 That's a good idea, how do you do it though?? Log in to your admin. Choose localization from the left menu. Choose Orders status. There you can edit existing names, add new ones etc. If you delete every order, you will have no best sellers or reports about how many of each item were purchased. Tim
warleb Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I have done my one slightly differently. I have'processing' (which means payment taken) Then I have 'shipped' (product is on it's way) Then I have 'delivered' (customer has recieved) I also have 'Order cancelled - refund given if a customer wants money back. I don't bother doing backups. I love the thrill of screwing it all up!
SeanB Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 If you delete every order, you will have no best sellers or reports about how many of each item were purchased. Tim Nope. I've only got 1 real order on the books, as well as a bunch of fake orders i did for testing back when i was still in development. My site still has a "best selling" list made up of all the items I "purchased" in testing, and they were all deleted. My website's address is in My Profile, since it's not allowed to be in my signature.
