Table shipping based on number of items v1.0 issue

In our shop, we charge to ship plants - up to 10 plants is ?7.50, 11 - 20 is ?10.00 and so on (thanks to the above contribution).

 

We also sell seeds with free shipping.

 

However - if a customer orders plants and seeds, the total number of items is used to calculate the shipping cost - i.e. 20 plants ordered and 2 packets of seeds - customer is charged the rate for 21-30 items when should be charged for up to 20 items only.

 

Any ideas on the best way around this please?

Hmm - quiet on this one.

 

How about if the plants are given a weight of 1 and the seeds 0, and then have the shipping worked out based on weight?

 

Is this likely to be the best I can achieve, do you think?

 

Would be good to know what others have done for this.
