Concidering my site, when uploaded, didnt look exactly like when it was in my own environment on my pc, i tried to tar the admin and catalog. uploaded the tar.gz file to my host wich runs a freeBSD server.

In cuteFTP i manually commanded it to : tar xvfz mysite.tar.gz

And i came up with a syntax error.

Tried to uncompress mysite.tar.gz

And another syntax error occured.

Sooo.....am i just the complete newbee who dont even know how to untar remotely or is there something wrong on the hosting side?

this might be a longshot but could it be you did not GZIP it when creating the file? Or perhaps the tar was uploaded in ASCII mode?

Try gunzip mysite.tar.gz and then tar xvf mysite.tar.gz

Posting the actual errors might help alot :)

Ive tried to upload in both binaries and ascii

Ive tried the gunzip too, no better outcome :-(

the error cuteFTP shows is : ERROR:> Syntax error, command unrecognized

and its the same eroor for both commands

Do you have SSH / Telnet access?

Seems to me cuteFTP is the problem, perhaps it's not allowed to execute 'tar' on the target host?

For FTP access i suggest the freest product on the market

Smart FTP: www.smartftp.com

and i suggest the most usefull unzipping untaring un what ever you want to do

WinAce www.winace.com

the trial goes on for life....so i would have to worry about the winace program dieing on you.

Ok, im gonna try smartFTP today and winace.

Allthou i allready have both powerarchiver and winrar installed :-)

Hopefully it will work better.

I tried flashFTP last night and allthou it was muc faster than cuteFTP, it still didnt solve my problem.

I too think its cuteftp tho, cause ive discovered that a lot of the uploaded gif images are either distorted or empty.
