phi148 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I've been hit by google bot over 5000 times since my website went live (only about 1 month) however... i'm still not indexed! Yahoo has stared indexing me... but google must not like me. Curious how long it took everyone else? Thanks!
Jack_mcs Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 A typical wait time for a new site and google is 2-3 months. On the other end, MSN usually indexes in a matter of weeks. So, instead of waiting for google to get to you, you should be optimizing your site so that it gets to a top 10 on MSN. When google finally lists you, you stand a better chance of ranking well with them, although it won't be in the top 10 for a while, most likely. Jack_mcs Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 How to properly optiomize a page is beyond the scope of the forums although bit and pieces of how to do so have been covered here many times. So you can fnid the information if you search for it. Basically, you need to make sure the keyword(s) you have chosen for the home page are good keywords for your site and then use them in the text on the page. Also, there are about ten SEO related contributions that should be installed for best results. These have been listed in various threads also. mpiscopo Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Bill, Spend the next few months adding content (text descriptions) to your website and getting lots of links (both inbound only and reciprocal). These two will keep you busy for a while - and they will yield the greatest results.
driftwood Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Bill, Spend the next few months adding content (text descriptions) to your website and getting lots of links (both inbound only and reciprocal). These two will keep you busy for a while - and they will yield the greatest results. I've found the biggest influance to SEOs in the domain, then the title, then the combination between the description & site text, then the keywords and links to and from your site. Sure the are more but that my experiance. MSN seem very keen of header content, google seem more concerned about links into your site. Both were on my site within days (because I had links from other sites setup). MSN is now looking very good for me, top 2 place for 2 keywords and loads of pages indexed. Google however takes a lot longer, although I'm index I'm not ranked and have no pages in the first 50. It wouldn't harm to download Advaned Web Ranking, you'll learn a lot from that even on the trial 15 days, I did. At the very least it'll tell you the correct number of letters in descriptions etc. All the best. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OSC user for years and no coder, so I've earned my stripes. driftwood Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I'm about to launch a new site, so as a test we'll see how long monsterfast.net takes to show up in google. I have added the site's banner to my existing site football4sale.co.uk and now I will manually add the url to google today. I will use some software to check the status and list the pages showig up each day from now. I'll report back when it shows up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OSC user for years and no coder, so I've earned my stripes. abra123cadabra Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 My site was indexed pretty fast in Google, MSN and Yahoo to be dropped completely by Google for about 6 weeks, although Google has been on my site almost all day, every day. I found that Google doesn't seem to care about the description meta tags but MSN and Yahoo do, so I just added some text from my product descriptions in there. Didn't install the header tags contrib as I had modified my code already. My title tag is showing something like "Buy Teekanne Glühfix - The House of Fine Foods & Teas", the URLs have the product name as well (Ultimate SEO URLs) and I mention the product name several time in the product description. Google has my sitemap submitted too but it keeps dropping by anyway. MSN seems to have forgotten about me but I'm experimenting with tagging my product pages with del.icio.us which gets Yahoo to check my site more often now. I managed to get added to DMOZ pretty fast and I have a few backlinks from site listings. Google loves my site and I got a page rank of 3 for the home page and 1 or 2 on several other pages within a few months. After launching my adwords campaign I'm getting quite a few referrals from them and increasingly organic search results so I must be going the right way, although I haven't got a clue which is the right way. Anyway, my products are pretty well known so a brand name is usually the keyword and if this can be found in the page title, URL and product description I'm listed mostly on the first page of search results. If you want to take a look what I've done to please the search spiders, disable Javascript and switch the view to "no style" in Firefox. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Mythology Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 hi; i am indexed by google when i add a SEO URL contribution on my web. in a few hours. it had crawled over m site a few times when i give place a sponsoredlink to adwords, but i wasn't listed top on sarches. Now i'm about to add an inline frame of 0 px to 0 px html page which has all my products with buy word before and after them. I think it will make a difference. also if the higher amount of links makes the site on top of google searches; i will also have an invisible link to google search result page :) i am wondering if the crawler will take it or not :=) Hey; do not search for a clean toplist; give an invisible link to: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=insomnia .) That's an idea. Hope works.

abra123cadabra Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 As far as I know google doesn't index what's in an iframe. I would still follow the true way by adding content to the pages. Google ranks you higher if your pages are relevant to the searchers (ie. they click on the result link). abra hi; i am indexed by google when i add a SEO URL contribution on my web. in a few hours. it had crawled over m site a few times when i give place a sponsoredlink to adwords, but i wasn't listed top on sarches. Not bad  In general trying to fool google falls on hard ground and if your site gets dumped for it you'll find it hard to get it back. Many people think they know how google works but I've not seen anyone that really does, I know I don't. From my own research I know they take great stock in the domain name and I think they rate .com higher the co.uk etc but don't know why they would do that. A common idea is links play a big part but I've a thory that they don't get you rankes higher they just get you more entries. I think the number of pages indexed by google it directly linked to the number of links you have in and out of your site. I don't know this as a fact but my own site was stuggling, I monitor it weekly, to get much more then 20 odd pages in google. Then I enabled the links info box and now I'm up to more then 200. Keywords seems to make little difference for my topic. I know a site that has no meta data like keywords and the content on the site is hardly impressive or rich with links yet it gets top ranking for a keyword and it's not even in the domain name. Thats my experiance but sure it's different for everyone. Personally I think google will fall off it's perch soon, the searches often contain reems of what are rubbish in the form of other searches. It wouldn't take a lot for another search engine to become the popular choice if they can stripe out such rubbish in some way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OSC user for years and no coder, so I've earned my stripes.
