Mark Evans
A bit on the good old land of Oz from those in the know would be great Australia became a commonwealth of the British Empire in 1901. It was able to take advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. Long-term concerns include pollution, particularly depletion of the ozone layer, and management and conservation of coastal areas, especially the Great Barrier Reef. A referendum to change Australia's status, from a commonwealth headed by the British monarch to an independent republic, was defeated in 1999. Read more here http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbo...ok/geos/as.html Don't u just love my british sense of humor  Mark Evans osCommerce Monkey & Lead Guitarist for "Sparky + the Monkeys" (Album on sale in all good record shops) --------------------------------------- Software is like sex: It's better when it's free. Guest
I still think we are a de-facto republic. After all, did we not just recently vote at a referendum for our head of state? The fact that we KEPT the previously unelected head of state is immeterial, we did vote! Thoughts from 42 degrees south :)
