ptheis Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I installed osCommerce from my host's Website Administration tool (VDeck). I followed the osCommerce instructions for changing file permissions. I am able to edit files through my host's Admin tool, but am unable to edit files using the osCommerce Admin tool. I get the following errors when trying to edit files that have permissions set to allow me to write: Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/tandanat/public_html/osCommerce/catalog//includes/languages/english/index.php Another interesting thing that I see that may be unusual is the following string which is the path in the osCommerce Admin tool that gets me to the index.php file listed above: /home/tandanat/public_html/osCommerce/catalog//includes/languages/english Notice the extra "/" before "includes" in the string. Is that normal? Thanks in advance for any help. Pete
natewlew Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I have read in the forums here that you should not edit your store files from the admin section. Download a program like Filezilla and download your store files to your computer and edit them from there. Other great Open Source (Free) programs: (Free as in free speech not free beer) The Gimp - An image program. | Firefox - All you have to do is add the Web Developer add-on to make this web browser complete. | FileZilla - An ftp program. | Inkscape - A good program to create images with. | Thunderbird - An email program. | Openoffice.org - An office suite that is compatible with MS Office. | Abiword - Another office suite. | Audacity - A sound recording tool. | ddp's Picks | Wordpress - An easy to use blogging software. | Joomla - An easy to use CMS that has ecommerce plug-ins. | Drupal - Another CMS How do I find these programs? Google Search!

If you're right, I think this osCommerce Admim tool is junk!
