OSC page contrast on Mac browsers

Justin

Recommended Posts

Before 2.2 is released, I hope that the developers will take a look at the default /catalog and /admin pages (not to mention the OSC web site) with a Mac OS X browser and then decide to make a few minor changes. Presumably due to difference in platform gammas, the white text contained in the grey header bars is very hard to read with Mac browsers due to poor contrast -- the grey bars simply aren't dark enough to make out the white text without squinting. I think the best cross-platform solution would be to make the grey color darker.

I've already gone ahead and done this on my pages, but it would be great if this change was standard when 2.2 is released. Otherwise, there are going to be a lot of deployed stores that are very hard to read on Mac browsers.

Any thoughts or comments?

No one who owns a Mac would *EVER* give it away!  :P

My bro owns a iBOOK.... it is just so neatly designed. It's like the notebook computer has its own character to it. "It has lights mimics its sleeping..........." how wierd......

Giving something like that away will be simply painful...

I've got an old, circa 1989 Mac SE/30 I'd be happy to donate, but I doubt its B&W 9-inch screen would be of much use in judging platform gamma differences. :D

So I can't donate a Mac (well, a useful one anyway), but I'd be happy to donate my time as a tester. If my feedback alone won't be of much help, suffice it to say that the "white text on grey bars" look doesn't have enough contrast. You might be able to emulate this on other platforms by cranking your gamma setting up a few notches.

Is there a way for me to take a screenshot that will preserve the way it looks on my screen, even when viewed on other platforms? Please let me know if there's any other way I can help!

Mac display is generally 20% brighter than that of windows. If you want to see what things look on either platform just adjust your display accordingly. For normal web development it's usually a good idea to leave your gamma at the half-way point.
