IPN disabled??

Hello,

 

I am having a different shopping cart installed on a different website, and my CGI guy asked me to switch the URL for the Pay Pal IPN to the new one.... will this totally disable my OScommerce cart? Does anyone know what will happen if I do not have my OScommerce URL as the IPN?
