Credit Card Payment Options

Hey all

New to OSCommerce, was using X-Cart (i loved it) for another project and decided to go freeware!

Anyhow, what steps need to be taken to get my credit card module set up?

It's easy enough to click install, but where do I put in information regarding who will be the payment gateway, internet merchant bank, ssl certificate etc.

Is that what Authorize.net does?

I basically need a guide for this and couldn't find it in the documentation.

Thanks!

The credit card module is rather misleading. It should be called "Credit Card Capture" module. All it does is capture and store the number and expiry in the database for processing manually thru a terminal later - nothing else.

To actually *process* the card number you can use a 3rd party payment plugin like PayPal. They are expensive for medium to high volume sales however - so Authorize.net would be your best bet. You will need an online merchant account before A.net can help you. Once you have your A.net account - plug your login ID and transaction key into the module and away you go with realtime credit card processing on your website.

Great - that sounds relatively straight forward with Authorize.net.

THanks a lot!

I was doing some snooping over at Authorize.net and realized that OSCommerce wasn't on their 'Certified Shopping Cart Directory'. Will this cause any slow down in accepting cards?

It seems that Authorize is already easily integrated into the system. I am just wondering why it wasn't recognized by them.

You are correct - it's not and I have no idea why. But I can tell you all my stores except two use A.net as their payment gateway and all work just fine. Response times are fast, it's stable, reliable and customer service is also very good. If you do more than $1,000 USd per month in sales they are a great choice.
