osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Move store to another domain

Recommended Posts

I currently have a hosting account that has OSCommerce already installed. I just have to configure it the way I want.

Here is what I want to do and need to do know if it will work.

Completely configure, install contribs, etc. to get the store the way I want.

Once that is done I want to transfer all the files to a different server with the same hosting company.

In other words:

The configured store will be at www.domainname.com.

The store data will then be moved to www.anotherdomain.com

My hosting company can transfer the entire store to the new server with no problem.

Is there a problem with oscommerce if I do this? Are there files, etc. that will not work correctly because of path issues, etc. If so, is it hard to edit?

The reason I want to do the above is because the customer currently has a miva store on a different server and we will be moving their domain to a another server (the final oscommerce store destination).

Until the moving of the domain I would like to create the store and do testing. Once satisfied, then pay for the new hosting account that will be where we are moving their domain.

Reconfiguring the store is a simple procedure... there are thousands of posts on how to do just that on these forums ;)

Sonia

That is part of the problem-reading through thousands of posts, plus I have seen many posts where there were problems doing what I wanted.

So, here is what I am doing-I am installing the store on the new server so I do not have to transfer the files.

Instead of having the store in a folder called 'catalog', I want the folder to be called 'store'. Is this going to cause problems down the road with any contribs etc.? Is there anything in the oscommerce script or contribs that specifically reference the 'catalog' folder?

Use Search, it works.

Before your host moves anything back up everything. Do a database backup from Admin, then FTP absolutely everything to your local computer. Once your host moves everything, if it is as complete as you say, you will just need to edit your two confige.php files.

My some people can be a bit touchy on here, if you don't want to help the guy don't bother glogging up the site with responses.

I would say you should have little problem, all you need to do is export your databases and copy your files.

Import the data to the new sever and copy over the files.

Then edit your configure.php files to change the database settings and the paths to your files.

As long as you've not done any strange links to dirs outside your installation dir you should be fine.

There were over 100 posts. After doing searches on various other items, I was gettign overwhelmed and was hoping for a simple answer.

It sounds like I wil not have a problem. I have now decided what I want to do and want to make sure I am doing things correctly. I have installed several contribs and I don't want to lose my work.

1. Installed oscommerce at www.domain.com/store

2. Once completed I want to move the store to www.newdomain.com (the oscommerce would be in the root directory, not a store directory)

3. I would copy all my files at www.domain.com/store and upload them to www.newdomain.com.

4. I would copy the old database to the new database location.

5. Edit the includes/config and the admin/includes/config files so they have the new server and database paths.

Are there any other files I need to change?

Are there any known issues with the oscommerce store being in the root directory instead of a subfolder? Any conflict with contribs?
