Add Product / Attributes Dynamically

Recommended Posts

Background:

I've got a supplier who sends me a file with custom product requests/orders (which metal, what size, what accenting, etc). I want to be able to receive the details of his order and create a new product on-the-fly to add to the shopping cart so the user can check out and pay for it through the standard osC interface.

Questions:

1) Is there a contribution that does this already? (I couldn't find it)

2) Is it better to create

(a) a new product with all custom details

(B) a generic 'custom order' product and put the details in as attributes

© some other way

I'm thinking (a) will be easiest, but clutter my database with custom products (as opposed to the standard ones there now). Option (B) will be a little more work, but look better when browsing the database (unless I hide the custom product somehow.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

If you have a custom order coming in from a seller, I would create it special for that sale. If you don't expect to use it again, delete it later. If you think you will, or use something close to it, just deactivate it in admin and reactivate and modify next time around.

Just between us, remember there are only 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't!!

Remember, learning is a "do-it-yourself" experience; although, not necessarily a "do-it-BY-yourself" experience.

The quickest way to learn is to forget to BACKUP!
