Searchbox doesn't go all the way to the top of left column

Thanks in advance for looking at this post! I don't know how to fix it. I've gotten rid of the box and background that goes around the searchbox. Now I only have a space for entering searches and the advance search text link below it. Since I did that the searchbox just hangs out at the top about 3 or 4 spaces below the header. Any thoughts? Please help!!
