An easier way, so that you don't have to run around changing al the files that expect your store to be in /root/catalog is to copy the following code as a file named index.htm into your root directory. You can also put your metatags and metadescription in this file and point the web-bots here.

<html>

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0; URL=http://www.cordellsfootwear.com/cordells/catalog">
<title> </title>
</head>

<body>

</body>

</html>

or if you want to do it this way and make it more search engine friendly use a 301 redirect

Not a good idea. This will ensure that none of your pages will ever be indexed by a search engine. There are better ways to do this, some are even easier than this. But the best way to do it is to move the entire cart up one level. It takes less than a half hour, I've done it dozens of times.

Strange, none of my sites have had a problem being read by the search bots. Basically, it grabs the metastuff and then is forwarded to the actual catalog.

However, to each their own.

I can give you a few hundred more link talking about how bad of an idea this is. In fact, here's about 780,000.

Fine, so, don't do it. You seem to be taking this personally or something.

You do things your way, and I'll do things my way.

Not at all, I just wanted to make sure that people that don't know any better aren't lead astray. You're more than welcome to use any method you like. I'm just pointing out that the method you suggested is well documented as having numerous shortcomings.

I think it's great that you jumped in and tried to provide some help, and I don't want to discourage you from doing that in the future. But the original poster should be aware of the issues they will incur should they chose to employ the solution you suggested. The fact that you've chosen to ignore these implications has no bearing on the thread, to be honest.

I'm just gonna answer the original question:

You need to move your site to the root. Bascally what you would do is copy all the files from your /cordells/ folder to the root of your site. Then you need to update your includes/configure.php file and your admin/includes/configure.php file. In those files change all instances of '/cordells/' with '/'

Once you have done this and everything is working in the root you can safely delete you /cordells directory (make a backup first!!)

That's it you are good to go after that.

Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!!

You did do a backup? eh?
