Why does paypal cart have company name where products should be?

See: www.lawatches.com - this is a new install of OSC.

when you hit 'confirm order' and it goes to paypal, the response comes back with the 'payment for' field complete with the company name and not the products from the cart.

Try:

put a product in the cart.

create and account or use [email protected] pw: password

choose paypal payment option and hit confirm

You'll see the paypal response before needing to log into paypal.

What is the variable for products? I think the wrong variable is being passed to paypal.

Any help would be much appreciated. I've been at this for 24 hrs now.

looked at paypal.php file, the error might be there but don't know what correct variable should be.

I have two different osC installations and in one of them i am having exactly the same problem in Paypal in field Payment For: there is just store name instead of what cart contains and this osC installation has (purchase without account) contribution installed

However my other osC installation works just fine and all cart conatains is correctly passed to Paypal and this installation does not have (purchase without account) contribution installed

Any idea why is this will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Did anyone ever get a response or answer for this error? I'm having the exact same issue and have been searching through all kinds of threads for answers.

This is happening on 2 of my osCommerce carts for clients and I can't figure out why.

Please reply in this thread or email me and I'll post up the solution. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Thanks!

Hello,

My store does the same thing but I installed the PayPal IPN contrib and set my PayPal options to return to the store after payment is complete.

In this configuration the customer order details appear in the customer order section of the store admin panel. PayPal still has the store name where there item should be.

Hope this helps?

I'd just like to pass on a word of warning regarding using the contrib Better PayPal Description.

It's fine if you normally process orders of 1 or 2 items. But, if your customers often buy several unique items at once, PayPal has a restriction on the number of characters allowed to be passed during checkout.

Example: Someone comes in and buys 1 Black Leather Motorcyle Jacket for $200

The PayPal invoice will read: 1 Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket $200, which is great.

If they buy more than a few items, the invoice will cut off after 128 characters, I believe, and your customer will see something like this when they hit the PayPal screen:

1 Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket $200

1 Red Leather Motorcycle Jacket $200

1 Blue Lea

It will cut off after either 126 or 128 characters. If they ordered a lot of items, it looks really bad. This gives the buyer the impression that their entire order was not picked up and they may kill the screen and leave. No fault of the author of the Better PayPal Description contrib...those are the the limitations that PayPal has in place and there's nothing you can do about it.

It's not unusual for me to have customers show up with 10 or 15 items in their carts, so...I got rid of Better PayPal Description. Personally, I felt it was the best way to go. Just have the invoice show as payment to My Store and let their Order Process email from the website serve as their detailed invoice.
