Ammending Customer Sign Up.

Is there a way to ammend the Customer sign up page so that they can Choose if they want to enter their Date of Birth or not?

 

Currently it is set to required.

 

I have just been informed this isn't a good idea as some may see it as a breach of the privacy laws and not use the store.

I would like it there so when a customers birthday is coming up i can offer them a 5% discount on order in a 2 week time frame.
