gg3558 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 The directions say to make sure the permissions on all of the folders are set to 755? Where do you find the permissions? Help!?!?
Jack_mcs Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 That is a settnig change once the directory exists. If you are using an ftp program, right click on the directory you want to change and you should see a permission or chmod item. Select that and you can change the permissions. If not, go into your hosts control panel and there should be a way to change them from there. A box comes up with Permissions: Owner, Group, All Users and an option of clicking Read, Write and Execute. There is no where to enter any 3 digit numbers nor do I see any. I'm lost!

This may confuse you more but if it doesn't then it will help you understand the permissions. Somewhere in there they had a screenshot where they set permissions to 755 you could just copy that.

ammmze Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Thank you for your help. I am looking over the information. It seems difficult getting help being such a beginner at this. I do appreciate it. No problem, I know what its like to be a beginner, I just started learning PHP about 8 months ago and have taught myself everybit of it same with HTML, and some CSS, but that was 2 years ago. I learned alot of the PHP from modifying osCommerce so if you try hard enough you'll catch on, or maybe your not even interested in PHP, whatever. Oh and now since a few weeks ago, I started learning VisualBasic...lol so i guess I am multilingual, I know more than just English...lol

I am very interested in learning as I have a web site that will hopefully be running with osCommerce. I have changed the settings (interesting I did not have the manual option which made it more confusing). I figured those boxes had something to do with it LOL  I will now again attempt the install procedure. OHHH Boy..... Thank you again VERY much.

I'm lost! The number is the same as the text but in a different format. If you look at the options, there are three groups. Each group has a Read, Write and Execute option. A value of 7 for a group means to turn them all on. A value of 5 means to set the first and last option. Explaining how the numering works is probably too much detail for you now. Hopefully the above helps though.
