error displaying error msg banners

I've a puzzle, and I'm about at my wits end to find it!

 

The "banner" type of error message causes my customer to get kicked out of osC.

 

The pop up type of error message is fine.

 

The banner type of error message, works fine in the admin screen, but not the catalog.

 

 

Has anyone ever run across this? What could be the issue???

 

it is the

tep_redirect(tep_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_PAYMENT, 'error_message=' . urlencode(ERROR_NO_INVALID_REDEEM_COUPON), 'SSL'));

 

Type of message that is causing problems. - ALL of them do the same thing.
